TASK: WORK TO A GIVEN LIVE BRIEF
For this task, we had to follow the live brief given to contestants during the World Skills Show. This involved modelling multiple assets from the game 'Overcooked', along with a character named Hangry. When modelling Hangry, we were given the two concept images the contestants had.
The Work Process
The environment assets
I started with the simple assets, mainly the walls and windows as these were just manipulated cubes with the bottom face removed.
When I had completed the wall pieces, I moved onto some smaller, but more complex assets, being the fire extinguisher, pots and floors.
I modelled the last few small assets I needed, then made the first few counters and work surfaces that we were required to complete.
After I had finished the final counters and similar pieces, I was able to move onto the character, Hangry.
Modelling Hangry
Hangry was significantly more challenging to model than the environment assets were, however, there seemed to be little difference between each step shown because while each section is a very simple thing, the process was challenging and long.
I decided to start by modelling half of Hangry's head without worrying about its soft-shaded appearance for this bit. After I had done that, I simply copied and pasted it, flipped it 180°, combined and ironed out any immediate issues that presented themselves.
At this point, I had reached possibly the part I found most challenging, modelling Hangry's teeth from the mouth. I did, however manage to complete them.
While I did also model Hangry's leaves, I unfortunately didn't get chance to fully assemble Hangry.
Evaluation:
With this task, we were assigned to follow a live brief used in the World Skills Show, involving modelling multiple assets from a game and a character. Overall, I feel I did well with modelling the environment objects and character. There are still many aspects I feel I could have improved on for the task. One of the main ones was UV-ing more effectively and reliably, overall making them cleaner and easier to use. There are also some shapes and physical aspects of the model that could be adjusted and improved overall, but I feel I performed to the best of my ability.
During this task, I learned the basics of UV-ing a created model for use and painting in Photoshop. Most other techniques were previously learned in previous tasks.
In conclusion, I feel the task went well enough (considering multiple issues that I forgot to record at the time) that it at the very least partly fulfils what was needed from the brief.
